Which also means: their survival depends on how everyone behaves.

Stewardship

The responsibility to take care of something that is not entirely your own.

It shifts the mindset from ownership to care.

In communities, stewardship is often invisible. But it shows up in everyday behaviour.

In what people choose to protect. And what they choose not to exploit.

Insight: Strong systems are sustained by responsible behaviour.

Sangha (Sanskrit / Pali)

A community bound not just by place but by shared values and purpose.

More than proximity, it is alignment.

We do this instinctively. In conversations, emails, even silence.

But interpretation is shaped by our assumptions. What we think is being said is often what we are already expecting to hear.

Insight: We don’t just interpret communication. We project onto it.

Ambiguity

In communication, I believe ambiguity is unavoidable. Not everything is clear. Not everything is direct. Not everything is black and white.

Hiraeth (Welsh)

Heard Anoushka Shankar talk about it at her concert and it got me thinking.

It’s a deep longing for a home you can’t return to or maybe never existed. It’s more than nostalgia. It’s softer, and harder to define. A sense of missing something you can’t fully name.

It reminds me that sometimes what we long for isn’t a place but it’s a version of ourselves.

Insight: In communication, people often respond not just to what is being said but to what they miss, or wish they still had.

Saudade (Portuguese)

I heard this word at my first ‘Fado’ experience in Lisbon. And felt I experienced it too through the music.

Its a feeling of longing for someone or something with the quiet knowledge they may never return. It holds sadness, but also warmth. Both memory and gratitude.

A reminder that emotions don’t always come neatly separated. We’re often taught to simplify what we feel - to label it, define it, resolve it. But some experiences are meant to remain complex. To be held, not explained.

Back when we carried little notebooks to collect beautiful phrases, this was one I wrote down and never forgot.
